Spooky Season Suggestions: Nostalgic T.V. shows and Movies

Fall is in the air! Tis the season for cozy sweaters, leggings, yoga pants, apple picking and pumpkin spice everything. I know I’m gonna sound basic for this, but fall is my favorite season. I love the crisp air, I love the cozy clothes that I get to wear and I love, love, love pumpkin spice. God bless the person or people who thought to put that lovely mixture of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and cloves into nice hot or iced cup of coffee. Yeah, I’m basic. Bite me!

You know what else I like about the fall? I like the spooky movies and books. I grew up in a Christian household and I myself am a Christian. That doesn’t stop me from enjoying Halloween or the T.V. shows, movies and books that accompany the holiday. Here’s a list of some of the nostalgic shows and movies that I like to watch during the spooky season….

  • The Addams Family (T.V. show)

This show isn’t really scary. It’s actually really cute in its own way. It’s a sitcom that was aired in 1964, but lasted only two seasons. It was a nice, chill show that also made fun of social norms of the ‘60s. Gomez Addams was extremely affectionate towards his wife when at the time PDA, especially on television was frowned upon. Morticia Addams wore a long, tight dress that she could barely walk in. Wednesday Addams had a doll that had lost its head. She named her after Mary, Queen of Scotts and so on. This show is extremely funny and nostalgic. It’s also free if you have Amazon Prime.

  • The Addams Family(1991) and The Addams Family Values (1993)

I couldn’t talk about the T.V. show without even mentioning the movies that I had grown up with. These movies may contain more mature humor and subjects, so watch them before letting your kids watch them. They’re not scary, but they’re hilarious and nostalgic.

  • Hocus Pocus (1993)

Now this is a movie that I know most of you have grown up with. The acting may not be all that great, and the premise is kind of cheesy, but it’s still fun to watch. The witches are especially fun to watch as they navigate through 1993 Salem. Sarah Sanderson is my favorite witch in this movie because she is so funny.

  • Scream Movies

These are the movies that my sister Jackie and I would ALWAYS watch together, no matter the season. These movies make fun of the universal tropes of modern slasher films. They’re somewhat scary but very funny and a whole lot of fun to watch.

  • Halloween (Michael Myers) Movies

I have to admit that I’ve only watched the very first movie and the more recent one. Don’t attack me now! I haven’t heard the best things about the other sequels so I didn’t watch them. But when It was said that the 2018 film would focus on the psychological affects that the attacks had on Laurie Strode and there may be a hint of generational trauma, I had to check it out. It did not disappoint. I really enjoyed the 2018 movie, even though some things annoyed me. Like really, there’s a serial killer on the loose and the police chief’s response is “What are you gonna do, cancel halloween?”  Ugh!

And that’s it for now. I will post more of my Spooky Season Suggestions weekly. What are your Spooky Season Suggestions? Tell me in the comments.
